The Department of Art and Art History invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Art in Painting. This tenure-track position requires a specialization in painting with a broad interdisciplinary practice. The search committee is interested in reviewing applicants whose interdisciplinary work intersects with one or more of the following areas: socially engaged or research-based practices; environmental issues; digital media; and other expanded fields. This artist will teach four courses per year including drawing, painting I, special topics in painting, and advanced-level studio courses in which students practice in a variety of mediums. Applications from Associate and Full Professors will also be given full consideration.

Required qualifications are an MFA, a minimum of 12 courses of college-level teaching beyond teaching assistantship, and a significant exhibition record at a national level. Candidates who are within 3 years of their MFA graduation will not be considered.

The ideal candidate will contribute to the growth and development of interdisciplinary curriculum across the campus, and will have the opportunity to participate in our growing Arts and Technology collaboration, the Fimbel Maker and Innovation Lab, and new initiatives across the Five College Consortium. Mount Holyoke College strives to create an inclusive environment that promotes engagement in technological and creative projects among our diverse student population. The successful candidate will have a commitment to their own practice as well as teaching at the undergraduate level and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, and religion.

All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
