The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, SUNY invites applications for two Assistant Professor (tenure-track) positions in the Learning Sciences, in the Department of Learning and Instruction. We seek a scholar with expertise in Mathematics Education for one position and Computer Science Education for the second position. The Department of Learning and Instruction has a long history of research excellence and a strong tradition of teaching and community engagement. Faculty demonstrate a commitment to creating a collegial academic environment characterized by equity, social justice, interdisciplinary collaboration, an ethic of care across all of their programs.

We seek candidates to join a collaborative group of scholars who are committed to engaging in research that addresses problems of practice through the Learning Sciences. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research and teaching seeks to investigate the following subject areas: designing or examining innovative classroom practices, creating and scaling solutions to real-life problems, exploring ways in which learning technologies serve to ameliorate or exacerbate educational and economic inequality, understanding issues facing students or teachers in urban and/or rural settings, exploring the intersections of cognition and emerging technologies on teaching and learning, and/or exploring learning technologies in sociocultural contexts.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintaining an active and productive research agenda commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty appointments
  • Seeking external grant funding
  • Teaching two courses per semester at the graduate level in Masters programs and PhD program related to candidate’s expertise
  • Teaching and Advising Ed.M. and Ph.D. Students

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in the Learning Sciences or related field (including Education, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, etc.)
  • Content area expertise in either Mathematics or Computer Science

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong potential for funding
  • Published research or scholarship (or strong potential for publication)
  • Experience and/or teaching in P-12 schools, particularly experience with diverse populations
  • Experience with online teaching
