JOB SUMMARY:

Administers Veterans Administration (VA) educational benefits programs, which provide tuition, fees, and housing to eligible students (700plus fall 2018). Advises, Counsels, and serves as primary point of contact for students/parents and other departments for issues/questions related to veterans' educational benefits. Serves as primary School Certifying Official (SCO) for VA benefits. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:

30% - Essential - Advising/Communications:
Advises and counsels students, and parents regarding VA benefits, deadlines, options, and potential issues. Provides regular status updates to students. Provides counsel, guidance, and training to other employees to aid them in serving benefits recipients. Presents information sessions at new student orientations. Informs students and employees of policies, regulations, and issues through regular communications. Creates and maintains documentation and brochures, and provide accurate and current information for website updates.

30% - Essential - Certifications:
Certifies enrollments in VA-Once system for benefit recipients every semester. Runs and monitors daily, weekly, and semester reports, and report enrollment changes in VA-Once system. Updates and maintains records in accordance with policy/procedures/regulations in Banner student information system, document management system, and related systems. Performs certifications/updates/reports in compliance with VA requirements and deadlines, and in a timely manner, which expedites payments to students. Monitors student enrollment changes, grades, and academic progress, and report those as appropriate to the VA, and other Clemson departments. Assists students in resolving veterans' benefits related issues.

20% - Essential - Knowledge/Training:
Maintains knowledge of current/appropriate regulations and policies, including complex and changing federal and state regulations. Maintains knowledge of Clemson academic regulations/curriculum requirements related to veterans' benefits. Participates in VA training opportunities such as regional/state conferences, webinars, and meetings. Serve as subject matter expert for veterans' benefits.

10% - Essential - Customer Service/ Continuous Improvement:
Recommends changes to Clemson policies and procedures to improve the student experience. Applies policies and procedures to effectively and efficiently certify and serve students. Provides services in a manner, which promotes a positive student experience and serves to retain students. Provides collaborative leadership to other Clemson professionals in areas related to veterans' benefits. Coordinates services with other departments/employees to provide positive experience for benefit recipients. Maintains availability for both walk-ins and scheduled appointments with students and parents.

10% - Essential - Collaboration:
Builds and maintains positive relationships with other employees that serve veterans benefit recipients. Collaborates with other departments by participating in meetings/events related to veterans' benefits and services. Collaborates internally through departmental/team meetings. Cultivates positive working relationships with other departments, colleagues in peer positions at other institutions, and federal and state administrators. Supervises student workers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree

Work Exp 1+ years of experience in student services programs.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

90% - Use hands or feet to operate or handle machinery, equipment, etc
85% - Communicate, converse, give direction, express oneself

75% - Sit (stationary position) for prolonged period

25% - Stand for prolonged period
WORKING CONDITIONS:

10% - Some evening/weekend work required may be required for special events for veterans or graduation.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Experience working with or advising students at the postsecondary level.
WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Band: 05 ($40,072 - $44,064)
