This position provides cost effective, efficient, reliable, preventative maintenance service in preserving the integrity of the campus facilities with minimal disruption to building occupants.

Experience Preferred

Two or more years as a Plumber Apprentice, ideally with preventative maintenance experience, especially with grease traps, sewer treatments, drinking fountains, and basic understanding of backflow preventers

Internal Contacts:
- Works routinely with other departments, staff, and campus administrators, including engineers, project managers, building liaisons, faculty, academic deans, and department heads
- Coordinates work activity with the maintenance staff, facility support center, and impacted building occupants to minimize disruption
- Ensures good communication regarding planned work

External Contacts:
- Coordinates occasionally with contractors required to work on campus

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift loads no greater than 50 lbs. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and work around confined areas with piping and wiring obstructions, as needed, to access equipment. Requires moderate to heavy physical activity, including bending, stooping, climbing, balancing, standing, and walking up to eight hours per day. Occasionally required to enter utility tunnels and confined spaces.

Working Conditions

Physical Environment:
- Requires exposure to high-pressure boilers and steam piping, high voltage electricity, high noise levels, rotating and other potentially dangerous equipment
- Requires work in mechanical rooms, tunnels, labs, attics, crawl spaces, non-conditioned spaces, and dusty, dirty, and wet conditions
- Requires personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety shoes, and safety glasses

Work Hours and Travel:
- After hours work may be required or other work outside the regular schedule may be needed
- This position is considered essential during a campus emergency; the incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency
- Available on a continuous “on call” basis for response to problems and emergencies that affect campus operations
- Requires periodic travel to classes, conferences, and vendor sites as needed

Job Duty NameEssential FunctionsDescription of Job Duty

- Operates, maintains, calibrates, lubricates, replaces expendable parts and repairs building systems (plumbing, water treatment, pneumatic, etc.)
- Assists with repairs and replaces with parts as needed
- Assists with maintaining necessary logs or inputs information into facilities management system to track and report all activities
- Provides feedback and recommendations to supervision as to possible improvements or modifications to building systems
- Ensures all preventative work orders are completed on schedule and within provided time and cost estimates
- Performs all other duties as assigned
