Innovative mid-west community college is seeking an individual to provide vision and management over the Career and Technical Education Pathway faculty, programs and Health Sciences Department, Skilled Trades and Agriculture Department, and Corporate and Continuing Education toward the achievement of objectives defined by the President; participates in the development of policies and procedures affecting Instruction and in achieving the vision of the College.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a member of the Academic Council and Deans' Team and participates in policy formulation for the college with the responsibility of determining the means to accomplish assigned institutional ends;
  • Guided by the values and institutional beliefs made explicit by the college, provides leadership to the Career and Technical Education faculty, departments, staff, and students in the Health Sciences and Skilled Trades and Agriculture pathways, in the a quest for performance excellence;
  • Monitors and evaluates Occupational academic programs and courses to determine the extent to which they meet the academic performance objectives adopted by the Leadership Council, Academic Council and the President;
  • Researches and purposes new programs that meet regional community and employer needs;
  • With faculty, responsible for the facilitation and assessment of student learning in Career and Technical Education. Encourages the assessment of learning styles and the use of responsive teaching methodologies in support of student learning;
  • Recommends academic operational policy and curricular changes to meet the educational goals of students and potential students in the community;
  • Supervises and coordinates the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of faculty and recommends the advancement of Career and Technical Education faculty to continuing contract status. Particularly responsible to evaluate faculty in the assigned Pathways. Said evaluation must include an intensive collaboration and review of the APRP with the faculty, in-class evaluations for each full-time faculty member each semester, and on-going communications regarding their performance on the APRP and its potential impact upon performance recognition. All evaluation elements, including APRP, classroom visits, etc. must be documented in the faculty member's file in the HR Office;
  • Promotes, monitors and supervises professional development and in-service training, including retraining programs and activities, for Career and Technical Education pathway faculty;
  • Participates with the Department Chairs, Program Coordinators, Extension Center Directors and Assistant Dean of Student Services in the development of annual faculty schedules;
  • Directs and coordinates the preparation of the annual budget for Career and Technical Education pathways.Assists department chairs in Career and Technical Education and directors in budget planning and management;
  • Coordinates the long-range plan for all academic offerings in Occupational Education including the developmentthe Department Chairs, Program Coordinators, Extension Center Directors and Vice President of Student Services or their designee.Responsible for the currency and marketability of academic offerings in Career and Technical Education;
  • Supervises the design and implementation of those elements of the strategic plan particular to Career and Technical Education and cooperates with other components responsible for research, strategic planning, and marketing;
  • Serves as a member of all committees responsible for academic integrity where appropriate;
  • Assists students and faculty in the resolution of student problems and complaints;
  • Represents Career and Technical Education Pathway and the faculty and Jackson College to other colleges and to community groups;
  • Provides overall leadership for the Corporate and Continuing Education Department of the college. Maintains and manages an outreach program to the community, including business and industry, K-12 and higher education, chambers of commerce, government agencies, and other profit and nonprofit organizations);
  • Coordinates with marketing and recruitment and with academic departments in the promotion of Career and Technical pathway programs. Serves as general spokesperson to promote those programs in the business, governmental and educational communities;
  • Serves as College liaison for Career and Technical Education Pathway programs with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, and Secondary CTE programs;
  • Represents the College at MODAC, the Career Preparation Board, and appropriate agencies and organizations;
  • Prepares and coordinates PROE and other reports on occupational education to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, and coordinates Perkins and Fast-Track grants;
  • Serves as a member of all Advisory Committees to academic programs;
  • Responsible for articulation with K-12 and local Intermediate School Districts, including dual enrollment programs;
  • Serves as catalog liaison with catalog production team; and
  • Manages special projects and assignments as directed by the Provost.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Master's Degree from an accredited institution, shall have completed undergraduate and/or graduate courses in such areas as administration, supervision, organization, and curriculum development and design [seminars or workshops may be substituted with appropriate documentation]; and shall have two (2) years work experience in an occupational program area and at least three years experience in administration and/or teaching in an approved occupational education program at the community college level.

Other Skills and Abilities

Visionary leadership to assist the college in designing new academic offerings which meet the needs of business, industry, labor, school districts, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Excellent organizational skills, especially the ability to promote organizational change.

Jackson College offers quality, transformational educational opportunities to prepare students for today’s career fields or transfer to a university.

Founded as Jackson Junior College in 1928, the College operated as a division of the public Jackson Union School District and was located near the high school in downtown Jackson, Mich. In 1962, Jackson County voters created Jackson Community College as a distinct entity; and in 1964, they passed a charter millage that still helps to fund the College today. Rapid enrollment and program growth in the 1960s spurred construction of a new campus on its present site. In 2013, in light of the College’s decision to begin development of curriculum for bachelor’s degree programs and increased efforts in international studies, the Board of Trustees voted to change the name to Jackson College.

Today, the College owns more than 500 acres and sits on a scenic rural site six miles south of the city of Jackson, and also operates Jackson College @ LISD TECH in Adrian, Clyde E. LeTarte Center, Hillsdale, and W.J. Maher Campus, Jackson. Online learning opportunities offer education around the world.

Jackson College Affinity Groups In an effort to better understand and serve the various ethnic communities in the College’s service area, the College has established several affinity groups from the various local ethnic communities. These groups meet to strategize on ways the College can better serve each respective community. In an effort to increase the affinity group’s effectiveness, the College is hiring a part-time liaison for each group. There are five affinity groups: Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black/African American, Pakistani, and Indian.
