Ithaca College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position in the Department of Chemistry to begin August 16, 2020. Primary teaching responsibilities are in physical chemistry and general chemistry.

Position/Job Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, or a closely related field is preferred; ABD with anticipated completion of Ph.D. by start date or shortly thereafter may be considered. Special consideration will be given to previous teaching and/or post-doctoral experience. The candidate is expected to: (1) have a strong commitment to teaching introductory general chemistry lecture and laboratory classes as well as upper-division physical chemistry courses; (2) establish an active research program in physical chemistry with undergraduates; (3) seek research funding through external grants; (4) send students to national or regional meetings; and (5) publish in peer-reviewed journals.

We are a research-active chemistry department at an undergraduate institution with a continuing mission to lead in undergraduate education and research ventures that extend beyond the traditional boundaries of chemistry. The Chemistry program is ACS certified and students graduate with a BA or BS in Chemistry or a BS in Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry at Ithaca College offers diverse coursework, opportunities for significant research, challenging and rewarding fieldwork, and a variety of extramural activities. The department is housed in the Center for Natural Sciences, a 125,000-square-foot building that features private labs for professors, large labs for instruction, and state-of-the-art equipment. Nationally noted for their research, our faculty are currently investigating a range of topics in collaboration with our students.
