Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. varies, nights and weekends as needed

Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Student Life Specialist I is responsible for the administration of one or more Student Life program(s). Serves as liaison between the program and other departments or the community. Position may supervise staff or students. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.

Additional Department Summary: This position provides professional management and supervision of the University of Alabama's Student Recreation Center, Robert E. Witt Student Activity Center, Aquatic Center and Outdoor Pool during weekday, afternoon and evening hours. During evening hours, the incumbent has responsibility for all functions relating to the operations and maintenance of the facility including but not limited to: patron services and relations; supervision of approximately 150-170 part-time student assistants, and student building supervisors; revenue accounting; risk management, issuance and maintenance of sports and fitness equipment and sports equipment inventory; policy enforcement and injury management. The incumbent is responsible for communicating issues at all UREC facilities, including cleanliness, appearance and mechanical systems to the Associate Director for Facility Operations & Special Events. The incumbent provides a respectful, supportive and healthy environment for University Recreation participants. The Coordinator directly supervises University Recreation’s strength and conditioning student staff at the Student Recreation Center, Robert E. Witt Student Activity Center, Aquatic Center and Outdoor Pool, and encourages leadership opportunities to develop our students into responsible citizens. Through the coordination and implementation of these duties, the Coordinator ensures the safety and well-being of participants which creates an environment for health and fitness improvement. This individual must work toward the department and University goals of diversity, inclusion and outreach in student selection, patron relations, program offerings and special events. *The Coordinator, Facility Operations assists in providing educational and recreational opportunities to the University community. Duties include recruitment and supervision of staff and/or student workers, providing student development opportunities and patron relations. This position will hold primary responsibilities in managing patron services and relations, managing equipment, and administrative tasks such as payroll, budgeting and accounting. Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of facility operations experience in a collegiate or municipal recreation setting; OR Master's degree or higher and one (1) year of facility operations experience in a collegiate or municipal recreation setting. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum two years preferred progressive facility management experience in a campus recreation or similar setting.
