Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Cafes, the Assistant Manager Library and Cafes is responsible for evening management of various campus cafes including: Library Café, Root’s Café and Southwest Café.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Manager, Cafes in the development, implementation and maintenance of operating systems that improve efficiencies and cost effectiveness. Assist the Manager, Cafes in developing goals and objectives for the Cafes.
  • Monitor business trends with strict adherence to all established food and labor budgets assigned to the managed Café locations.
  • Use benchmark Key Results Indicators (KRI) weekly to measure the business.
  • Assist manager in preparing budgets for each location including sales and status reports; including long and short term planning in the areas of location layout, product selection and presentation, forecast trends and anticipate customer demands.
  • Participate in programs of quality assurance, peer review, continuing education, food committee, Year-in-Review.
  • Maintain a professional signage system by following the guidelines outlined by Dining Services.
  • Maintain communication with students through comment cards, food committee meetings, etc.
  • Greet and meet customers in the Café locations during peak meal hours by circulating through the customer service areas. Maintain open lines of feedback through focus groups, food committees, customer satisfaction surveys, etc.
  • Follow purchasing guidelines to determine what products are to be sold, determine product presentation, location, floor layout, seasonal changes, maintaining continuity of products and presentation as well as introducing new products and services, expansion plans, remodeling and resetting of the service areas to maximize sales and revenue potential.
  • Monitor and maintain proper inventory levels, establish selling prices in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Prepare staff schedules for employees following the departmental budgets and guidelines. Coordinate employee participation in dining.
  • Provide training classes on sanitation, proper food handling and customer service.
  • Understand, is committed to, and support affirmative action and non-discrimination goals and customer focused quality

  • Perform other duties in other retail outlets as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3 years’ experience in retail food services management or an Associate’s degree and 5 years retail food services management experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems.
  • ServSafe Certification is required.
