The ELC Assistant Director assists in leading the University’s English Language Center (ELC).

Program Administration
• Coordinate and oversee day-to-day program operations with a focus on successful outcomes for ELC students
• Respond to student inquiries and process ELC applications in an expedient manner
• Perform DSO (Designated Signing Official) duties, which include creating immigration documents and answering student inquiries pertaining to immigration/visa issues
• Oversee communication plan for prospective and current students, campus and community partners, etc.

Student Support
• Perform administrative tasks to ensure program functionality and success
• Work collaboratively with on- and off-campus student support services (Housing/home-stay, Health Center, Auxiliary Services, service learning opportunities, etc.)
• Design and implement events and programs such as airport pick-ups, orientation, welcome dinners, trips, graduation, Conversation Partners, and Friendship Families, etc.
• Provide day-to-day oversight of all specialty programs (summer and short-term programs, etc.)
• Counsel and advise students
• Ensure academic and physical welfare of ELC students
• Design and implement innovative strategies for retention of students

Curriculum/Teaching
• Participate in the development and instruction of ELC programs, as needed

General
• Update ELC website in a timely manner
• Attend and present at conferences
• Many of these responsibilities entail evening and weekend commitments
• This position requires a high degree of initiative, creativity and self-direction

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree, preferably in TESL, linguistics, or a related field.

At least three years of experience in ESL teaching.

Must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, as required by federal regulations

List the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position

Experience in ESL teaching and programming.

Experience living, working, or studying abroad.

Excellent command of the English language, written and oral, and effective interpersonal communication skills, including sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with people from numerous countries and cultures.

Detail-oriented and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Ability to work nights and weekends; occasional domestic and international travel required.

Preferred formal education, professional skills and work experience

Knowledge of a foreign language.
