Position Summary

New York University seeks an Executive Director for Schools & Institutes to provide leadership and supervision for 5 - 7 experienced fundraisers with University-wide fundraising responsibilities.This senior position will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Schools & Institutes. The candidate will be responsible for leading their direct reports to a minimum of $30M raised annually and achieving a personal fundraising goal on average of $3M.

 

The Executive Director will work closely with the AVP of Schools and Institutes to set annual and individual fundraising goals in partnership with academic Deans and University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) leadership in support of strongly articulated and well-crafted funding priorities. The candidate will incorporate agreed to metrics and be a thoughtful performance coach capable of championing both team and individual successes.  The Executive Director will contribute to a collaborative fundraising environment and participate in strategy sessions across Schools and Institutes in support of interest-based, donor-centric prospect assignments.  The Executive Director will have a broad base of progressive fundraising experiences, preferably in higher education, in order to provide the leadership, strategy and insights required to support skillful fundraisers. The candidate will possess the discipline of frontline fundraising in order to manage a select portfolio of high-capacity prospects and donors with a documented track-record of closing 7-figure gifts. In support of these goals, the candidate will have the ability to plan, forecast and communicate annual plans and manage budgetary resources accordingly.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's degree.Preferred Education:Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, or Non-Profit Management.Required Experience:Ten years of progressive development experience. Proven record of successful solicitation of 7-figure gifts. Strong administrative, management and performance coaching skills.Preferred Experience:Professional experience in an academic environment. Experience managing a portfolio of teams through the implementation of metrics and performance coaching.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent organization, time management and communication skills, both written and verbal. Commitment to achieving goals and fostering teamwork. Ability to lead and coach a motivated team. Proven ability and desire to reach progressive goals. Familiarity with best practices and effective opinions on all aspects of the fundraising continuum.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Professional certifications such as ACFRE, CFRE, or completion of professional program(s) in Non-Profit Management, or Philanthropic Studies.
