Research Assistant Professor
The Research Assistant Professor will contribute to the integrated research land-grant mission of the home unit and IANR, as an effective scholar and citizen, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy. This is a non-tenure track position for a period of one year. The position may be continued beyond the first year dependent upon availability of grant funds and satisfactory performance of the incumbent in successfully accomplishing assigned duties.
Research responsibilities will include designing field trials and surveys to identify major causes for yield gaps in current oil palm plantations, analysis of on-farm database, quality control of weather and soil data, elaboration of technical reports and policy briefs, organization and presentation of training workshops and monitoring of field trials and survey data collection. Outputs from this work will be used to help develop and coordinate strategies to close the existing yield gap in collaboration with researchers, extension services, NGOs and governmental agencies in Indonesia. Research will also include identifying and quantifying limits on yields from water, nutrients, and climate based on empirical relationships and use of crop simulation models.
Preparation of grant proposals for funding to support research projects, presentation of research results at scientific meetings, and publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals are core duties for this position. The incumbent may also provide guest lectures in undergraduate and graduate courses and contribute to extension educational programs as time permits. Contributions to supervision of graduate student research is another role expected of this position.
In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level.Minimum Required Qualifications
•PhD degree in agronomy, agricultural engineering, soil science
•Proficiency in the use of crop simulation models
•Proficiency in the use of GIS
•Previous experience on applied field research
•Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals
•Excellent oral/written communication skills
•Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally
•Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
•Potential for growth into a leadership role
