Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

Primary duties are expected to be in the area of Managing Research in the UGA Center for Vaccines and Immunology (CVI), but successful candidate will also be expected to hold monthly Research Lab Manager Meetings to ensure efficient communication between the CVI Executive team/CVI Faculty and the CVI Research Staff, Post-doc, and student members. In addition, duties will include coordinating with Principal Investigators and laboratories for use of Center common equipment and procedural trainings, meeting with the Center Director and Business Manager to coordinate overall operations, enforcing all Center research policies, coordinating with campus BSL3 and ABSL3 oversight entities, overseeing biosafety and other Center compliance requirements, liaising as Center representative with other departments and regulatory bodies on the UGA campus. Work involves research, development, and evaluation of CVI financial savings, methods, processes, instrumentation, and equipment for water management, energy conservation, autoclave sterility and waste management, as well as biosafety of researchers and research space.

Successful candidate will manage the 5 CVI Research Core Facilities (Cellular and Cytometry Core, Antibody Core, Biomarker Core, Protein Production Core, and Translational Medicine Core). Successful candidate will oversee daily operations, manage a minimum of 5, up to 10, research technical staff, interact with non-University clients to arrange for contracts, support the CVI Core Business model including billing and invoicing (in conjunction with the CVI Business Manager), give lectures on CVI Equipment and capabilities to local, state, national, and international groups. Successful candidate will be expected to attend National and International meetings to support the CVI Core Mission and Educate Scientists, Researchers, Company Representatives, Government Personnel on the CVI and UGA Research Capacity, Animal models, Clinical Trial Apparatus, and CVI Core Capabilities.

In addition, successful candidate will oversee the Vertical Integrated Projects (VIP) program for undergraduate scientific and applied education in the CVI. This will involve supervising 12-16 UGA undergraduate researchers in training in highly technical and cutting edge scientific, hands-on training for CVI research laboratories. Each year, you will be involved in the recruiting of new undergraduate researchers into the program, interviewing these candidates, and assigning to various CVI research laboratories or CVI Core labs for research learning and student mentoring in the biomedical sciences.

Lastly, successful candidate perform scientific research on influenza and potentially other vaccine development program and will present completed research findings and data in annual presentations at Scientific Meetings as well as write scientific manuscripts for peer-review publications.

•Managing Research in the UGA Vaccine Center including Supervision of the 5 CVI Research Core facilities.
•Attend Faculty Meetings and hold monthly Research Lab Manager Meetings to ensure efficient communication.
•Coordinate use of Center common equipment and procedural trainings.
•Meeting with the Center Director and Business Manager to coordinate overall operations. Coordinating with campus BSL3 and ABSL3 oversight entities, overseeing biosafety and other Center compliance requirements, liaising as Center representative with other departments and regulatory bodies on the UGA campus.
•Manage 5-10 CVI Research Staff for efficient operations of the CVI and its Core Facilities.
•Maintain and perform immunological phenotype acquisition and flow cytometry cell sorting of fluorescently labeled cells.
•Work with Clients in the CVI and through contract arrangements to perform flow and other cellular immunology work.
•Develop new protocols and assays and work to enhance the range of activities for generations of scientific data by CVI investigators.
•Attend Scientific Meetings, Give Presentations, and generate new clients for the CVI Cores.
•Overall liaison for the CVI to the University community and outside of UGA. Give Tours of the facility, Give presentations on campus, the local community, and across the state.
•Work with the Strategic Partnerships Director to provide content to the CVI Social Media and outreach programs.
