Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This position is in the Kurup lab. In addition to carrying out experimental procedures, this person will be in charge of daily operations of the lab. This includes the maintenance of tissue culture facilities, ordering and organization of laboratory materials, and more generally supporting a positive laboratory environment and facilitating the carrying out of experiments by laboratory personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with routine biochemistry and immunology procedures. Above all, if there is a desire to learn, one can flourish in this position. An ability to effectively communicate both in written and spoken formats will be expected.

Physical Demands

This job will sometimes involve the moving of boxes and equipment as well as regular stocking of shelves.

Carry out experimental procedures as requested by the principal investigator to advance the experimental goals of the lab.

Percentage of time50 Duties/Responsibilities


Supporting the smooth functioning of the lab. Supporting duties include making media for tissue culture (TC) cell growth, TC specific buffers, and preparing and aliquoting TC related items such as serum, trypsin, antibiotics, etc. Operating as an open and available resource to help lab members navigate protocols and logistical hurdles to be able to move their projects forward.

Percentage of time25 Duties/Responsibilities


Organizational and lab ordering duties. The organizational structure of the lab will be carried out and enforced by the lab manager. Responsible for maintaining the various inventories of the lab which include chemicals/reagents/archived cell lines, hazardous waste management, lab safety compliance, and lab equipment.
