Carpet and Floor Care Specialist, Night Floor Care - GU Facilities Management

Carpet and Floor Care Specialist, Night Floor Care - Georgetown University Facilities Management

Working in accordance with a detail project plan, the Carpet and Floor Care Specialist performs specific cleaning and maintenance functions to provide a clean, safe environment. Areas of responsibility will include care of hard floors and tile surfaces,vacuuming carpets, carpet spotting to remove gum, paint, and other foreign matters, and carpet shampooing and extraction. Performs other duties as assigned including, but not limited, to snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage and special event support. Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, and working alone or as team member as assigned, the Carpet and Floor Care Specialist as duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Performs care of hard floors and tile surfaces
  • Vacuums carpets and performs carpet spotting to remove gum, paint, and other foreign matters.
  • Performs carpet shampooing and extraction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage, and special event support.
  • On occasion receives other assignments including, but not limited to emergency snow removal, spills and flooding, and/or performs tasks assigned by the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Manager of Custodial Services, the Night Operations Manager, and/or other department managers.
  • As designated by management, serves as team leader in the absence or unavailability of a supervisor.
  • Behaves in a professional manner and keeps informed of departmental and University rules, regulations and guidelines pertaining to employment obligations, including compliance with attendance and clock-in and clock-out time.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ year of custodial work experience - preference for at least 1 year of floor care experience
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and conversing in English in order to read and understand product label instructions, policies and procedures, as well as to effectively discuss custodial and maintenance matters with supervisors and others
  • Ability to sit, walk and stand while working, and to use arms and hands to lift and carry up to thirty-five pounds and tools of the trade, to push and pull up to fifty pounds of equipment between buildings, and to push and pull up to one hundred pounds on a rolling dolly
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend and crouch, to reach and pull and to work on equipment
  • Ability to see, hear, smell, and maintain a fundamental understanding of chemicals
  • For continued employment, will be required to complete a training program in building cleaning
  • Availability and willingness to work during emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal

The Carpet and Floor Care Specialist is considered an emergency position that requires that incumbent reports to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late, or closing early.
