Assistant Professor - Department of Theology and Religious Studies

Requirements

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, Department of Theology and Religious Studies, invites applications for a Tenure Line, Assistant Professor position in Religions in the Global South, principally in Africa, South and Central America, or the Caribbean.

We are particularly interested in candidates with ethnographic field experience. Areas of emphasis might include, but are not limited to, emerging theologies, the encounter of different religious visions, popular religious practices, religion and migration.

Candidates should demonstrate an interest in and an aptitude for teaching undergraduates, as well as evidence of a promising scholarly publishing career. The person hired will be expected to regularly teach the general education course “The Problem of God” as well as electives and upper-level seminars in her or his field of expertise. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Involvement in the department's Ph.D. program in religious pluralism is desirable. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the life of the university and of the department, which is large and committed to diverse approaches to the study of religions and theologies.

A Ph.D. is expected at the time of appointment. Start date is August 2020.
