Salary:
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,609 per month

Note: This full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week)position is temporary and expected to end on or before September 30, 2020. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance. Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits plus paid vacation, sick leave, etc.

Organizational Description:
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships supports the University by administering and/or coordinating all student financial aid programs at California State University, Fresno. The office is responsible for administering federal, state, institutional, and scholarship aid in excess for $250,000,000 annually to approximately 80% of the student.

Overview:
Under the supervision of the Processing Lead, the Student Personnel Technician requires a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of various federal, state and institutional financial aid and scholarship programs. This position pre-forms technical tasks associated with the delivery of aid funds to students and provides advice and assistance to students, parents and campus staff on a variety of financial aid programs.

Position Summary:
  • Analyze, review and correct financial aid data elements in the student database, PeopleSoft
  • Perform student aid processing functions such as need analysis and verification of student and parent data provided on financial aid applications and supporting documentation in accordance with federal and state guidelines
  • Process and update student files and award calculations to ensure timely delivery of aid funds to students
  • Exercise good judgement and excellent customer service when working with students
  • Perform other technical duties as assigned, to support the management of various specialized aid programs by the Financial Aid Counselors
  • Provide advice and assistance to students, parents and the community through various points of contact including the Student Service Center windows, Financial Aid phone center, and outreach events.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality if all student information in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Other related work duties in financial aid as needed
  • Participate in staff training and read assigned information and materials to stay current on knowledge necessary to perform the job effectively and efficiently
  • Support the mission of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and the University

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures of financial aid programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to:
    o Advise and assist students with accurate information in response to financial aid processes and procedures
    o Obtain, analyze and evaluate data for specific use
    o Exercise good judgment in proactive problem solving in those situations which can be handled directly
    o Adapt to changing policies, procedures and technology
    o Maintain confidentiality
    o Prioritize work generated by several entities
    o Work with frequent interruptions
    o Support the mission of the office and the university
  • Regular and punctual attendance

    Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Equivalent of two years of financial aid office experience at any level

    Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in a CSU financial aid office
  • Experience with verification and/or awarding of financial aid
  • Experience with financial aid PeopleSoft
