The department of Pediatrics is actively seeking a Per-Diem Audiology Technician. The Per-Diem Audiology Technician assists in conducting patient audiometric testing, fittings, adjustments, and repairs. The employee also performs hearing screenings, and assists with audiological evaluations under the supervision of a licensed audiologist.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Meets with patients and conducts hearing screenings.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families and gathers documents and information from patients.
  • Fits hearing aids and assists with adjustments, questions, or problems.
  • Cleans all audiology equipment at close of the business day.
  • Maintains relevant inventory and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Assists the audiologist with completing paperwork for orders and repairs.
  • Facilitates goals and objectives established by the department.
  • Maintains patient files and performs clerical duties and other support functions.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Demonstration of technical expertise for screening otoacoustic emissions and auditory brainstem response testing.
  • Demonstration of acquired knowledge for documentation completion.
  • Review census for each nursery to determine which babies need and are eligible for hearing screening.
  • Comply with universal precautions before physically making contact with each child.
  • Perform newborn hearing screen using otoacoustic emissions or auditory brainstem response in accordance with program protocol, and print test results.
  • Review chart/ interview nurses to determine risk factors associated with hearing loss.
  • Complete newborn hearing screening form with demographics, birth status, risk factors, type of test, date of test, location of test, and tester.
  • Affix test results printout onto back of first copy of triplicate form.
  • Remove the yellow copy of the screening form to give to the ward secretary for spot card documentation of test completion and outcome.
  • Deposit remaining form copies (from 3-copy NCR paper) into letter bin for later review and readiness for patient chart.
  • Clean and sanitize probe tips.
  • Clean and organize equipment cart at end of the day.
  • Notify program director if supplies are needed.
  • Cover equipment cart with sheet at end of shift to protect contents from dust.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience. Prior experience with newborn hearing screening preferred.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends·as necessary.
