DESCRIPTION: Responsible for processing, compliance and regulatory issues with regard to R2T4s, SAP, verification and awarding of TIV, state, and institutional funding. Acts as a key member of the Student Financial Services leadership team providing management and leadership to the office. Provides counseling and guidance to students, parents, faculty and the public relative to student financial aid eligibility, policies and procedures. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides support and leadership for the Student Financial Services Office, with emphasis on compliance with federal financial aid regulations and customer service.
  • Packages all returning CAS students, all CAS graduate students, and GST students.
  • Assists families and students by providing comprehensive financial aid options concerning aid and payment options, including terms and conditions of various loan programs, debt management; respond to difficult financial aid inquiries; conducts financial aid presentations to students and families.
  • Calculates and ensures timely process for all Return of Title IV (R2T4) funds; works with external auditors as requested.
  • Processes appeals using professional judgment.
  • Performs Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) process in compliance for all students.
  • Oversees the verification of financial aid files, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Oversees financial literacy plan.
  • Oversees the certification of Direct Parent PLUS Loans and alternative loans for CAS students.
  • Maintains relationships with lenders, and supervises the ELM certification process.
  • Supervises the Processing Specialist and Student Services Coordinator.
  • Supervises student workers, and manages budget for student worker hours.
  • Reconciles Federal Pell, Cal Grant and Direct Loan program.
  • Maintains and updates the Student Financial Services pages on the University website.
  • Makes processing decisions that support the policies and goals of the University.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of one (1) year experience in student aid, higher education administration or in a related field that requires the interpretation and application of public regulations and policies is required. A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required. Financial aid experience in a higher education environment, with knowledge of rules and regulations as they pertain to Federal Title IV funding strongly preferred. Successful candidates will have similar experience demonstrating a high level of independent thinking and judgment. Candidates will have a strong regulatory background with the ability to understand and interpret federal/state/institutional regulations and laws. Must have excellent organization and analytical skills and be detail oriented; strong technical ability to understand different types of software; ability to enforce policy. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
