The New Jersey Association of State Colleges and Universities (NJASCU) supports the missions and well-being of senior public institutions of higher education. Through cooperation between trustees and campus administrators, NJASCU plays an active role in developing and proposing state higher education policy to better serve New Jersey's citizens. Its members are seven public institutions of higher education: The College of New Jersey, Kean University, New Jersey City University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, Stockton University, Thomas Edison State University, and William Paterson University. One trustee from each of the member colleges comprise the NJASCU governing board. Campus presidents meet monthly with the Executive Director (ED).

 

Responsibilities of the Executive Director

The role of the ED is to develop, implement, and assess the strategic operations and opportunities of the Association. The incumbent’s primary responsibilities are to:

Proactively advocate on behalf of the NJASCU colleges to secure support, develop and monitor legislative proposals, and educate legislators and other partners and affiliated groups about the sector and its interests

Identify and help to implement collaborations across and beyond NJASCU institutions to find efficiencies, attract attention, and secure support; direct and steward strategic partnerships with key constituencies

Establish and implement long-range and short-range goals consistent with Association goals and objectives.

Provide strong fiscal management to ensure the organization operates within its approved budget Provide a forum for NJASCU senior leaders, including Government Affairs Officers, Chief Finance Officers, General Counsels, and Provosts, to exchange information, pursue opportunities, and realize the value of NJASCU

 

Required Skills and Abilities

Proven ability and expertise in partnering with policy makers

Demonstrated management skills, including budget management, allocation of resources, supervision of organizational development

Exceptional ability to build relationships and perform in a broad range of environments including academic, governmental and business settings

Excellent analytical, organizational, planning and problem solving skills with ability to anticipate, prioritize, drive and complete multiple projects, and respond to changing priorities

Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills

 

 

Qualifications

Master's degree required, Ph.D. or JD preferred, and minimum of seven years of senior-level experience in strategy or operations in a higher education or government setting
