St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Director of Career Services position. Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of Student Life, the Director of Career Services is responsible for the leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the department and supervises 7 staff members and ten student employees serving as Career Services Interns. The new Director will oversee the maintenance, design and implementation of state-of-the-art career development strategies and programs for St. Lawrence students, as well as the evaluation and assessment of their effectiveness. Essential responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead a high-performing Career Center as it successfully engages University stakeholders and members of the surrounding community in the career development and career transitions of St. Lawrence students and alumni
  • Beginning with the first year student, ensure that students understand the importance of linking academic interests with career preparation through such activities as experiential education including research opportunities and internship experiences
  • Foster a student culture that is purposefully engaged and professionally-minded by helping students to develop understanding and skills critical in bridging the liberal arts to the workplace. To professionally prepare new graduates for the transition into the job market or graduate school setting
  • Ensure productive and continuing goal-directed partnerships with faculty and staff members, alumni, student organizations, parents, trustees and employers
  • Identify and develop local, regional, national and international partner organizations who will look first to the University to fill their employment needs
  • Expand corporate relationships for the purpose of increasing the numbers of available opportunities for internships and other experiential learning opportunities as well as for full-time employment.

Within 6 months of graduating from St. Lawrence in 2017, 95.4 percent of students were either employed, accepted into graduate school, or pursuing other post-baccalaureate education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess a master’s degree.
  • The requirements include seven years of full-time employment including at least four years of progressive leadership and supervision in positions in career services, which involve significant responsibility in budget management, strategic planning, and personnel management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates whose years of progressive leadership and supervisory experience are in a college, university, or comparable setting related to career exploration and provision of career programs and services.
