 Boise State University’s Schoolof Public Service is dedicated to excellence in innovative teaching, cuttingedge scholarship and meaningful community outreach, serving the State of Idaho,and our regional, national and global communities. The School is composed ofrich and diverse academic programs, including Criminal Justice, PoliticalScience, and Public Policy and Administration, as well as interdisciplinaryprograms such as Environmental Studies, Global Studies and Urban Studies andCommunity Development. The mission of the school is supported by a variety ofcenters and institutes that facilitate research and public engagement.

 The School of Public Service seeksto hire two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professors to contribute to a researchand teaching cluster organized around the theme of “Governance and Well-Beingin Sustainable Communities.”  This is thesecond round of hiring on this theme.  These new faculty members will support thegrowth of the interdisciplinary SPS programs Environmental Studies, GlobalStudies, and Urban Studies and Community Development, as well as existing MA,MPA, and PhD graduate programs. 

 Candidates’ areas of focus shouldaddress the cluster theme but could do so from a variety of perspectives,including the following:

  • Race, ethnicity, diasporic populations, and/or indigenous nations or tribal communities.
  • Migration and the movement of peoples in the shaping of communities.
  • Social and grassroots movements, non-profits, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Science, technology, and society, especially the intersection of global, environmental, and/or urban change.

    • Teachundergraduate courses in Environmental Studies, Global Studies, and/or UrbanStudies and Community Development.
    • Contributeto the School of Public Service’s graduate programs and undergraduate core.
    • Engagein academic and public service scholarship.
    • Engagein professional, university, and public service.
    MinimumQualifications: 

    • PhD in a social science or humanities field. Advanced ABDcandidates will be considered.  
    PreferredQualifications: 

    • Interdisciplinaryscholarship, teaching, and engagement.
    • Abilityto teach courses that incorporate race and ethnicity.
    • Abilityto teach within one or more of the following areas: GIS, qualitative methods, orbig data.
    • Interestin experiential learning approaches.
    • Interestin building research on the Intermountain West region.
    Thesuccessful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, andabilities:

    • Interestand potential in building a strong research record in the social sciences orhumanities.
    • Interestand potential in producing high quality peer reviewed and public servicescholarship.
    • Interest,experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

    Boise State University School of the Arts will offer two new degrees in creative writing — a bachelor of arts and bachelor of fine arts — as well as a bachelor of fine arts in narrative arts beginning in fall 2018. Students at Boise State also now will be able to minor in creative writing.

     

    Boise State students can choose from more than 200 areas of study in seven academic colleges – including the nation’s only master’s degree in raptor biology.
