This position is responsible for developing and implementing programs to provide assistance to students in all aspects of career exploration and planning and marketing those services to students and employers.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Assists students with career development skills including resume and cover letter writing; interview skills; and job search strategies as necessary

• Organizes job fairs, workshops, and recruitment opportunities that will connect students to employers to provide information regarding future career options

• Disseminates employment and internship opportunities to appropriate faculty, organizations, and students

• Develops strong relationships with MGA department heads and faculty; targets key faculty for employer recruitment opportunities

• Works closely with other staff members in the planning and coordination of career outreach and programs such as job fairs, career development programs, and employer panels

• Conducts regular outreach efforts including classroom presentations, Orientations, etc.

• Supervises all Career Center interns and student assistants

• Oversees Career Center social media accounts and online job board, Handshake

• Provides career assessment and interpretation to undecided students

• Provides information to students on available trainings and community resources

• Advises students of the skills needed in various fields, the average salary of each field, and the requirements of each field

• Advises students about what courses and educational programs they need for particular careers

• Prepares, organizes, and maintains appropriate reports and statistical summaries

• Maintains ongoing professional development via involvement with relevant professional associations such as the GACE (Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers) and NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers)

• Performs related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of career development in the context of higher education

• Knowledge of the local, regional, and national job market

• Knowledge of state and federal employment laws

• Skill in the provision of career advisement to a diverse student body

• Skill in career management systems and other career development software programs

• Skill in decision making and problem solving

• Skill in developing relationships with employers to develop job and internship opportunities

• Skill in oral and written communication

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director of Career and Leadership Development assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include department and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:

• The work consists of varied career development duties. The unique nature of each student’s needs contributes to the complexity of the position.

• The purpose of this position is to assist with the university’s career development programs. Success in this position provides effective career resources to students and alumni.

CONTACTS:

• Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, business leaders, potential employers, and members of the general public.

• Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to provide services, and to resolve issues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The work is very active, requiring physical activity/mobility. Also requires travel to all campus locations.

• The work is performed in an office and in various campus settings including classrooms, event venues, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over student assistants and interns as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

SALARY: Pay Grade 16.
