Basic Function

Serves as the lead for monitoring and coordinating student retention activities between the academic and student services divisions. Provides academic advising to prospective, current and returning community college students to include general transfer, career, and financial aid information. Offer support and/or coordination of assigned campus Student Services activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates, monitors and supports the retention work of the student services and academic divisions. Provide walk-in and group advising to NOVA students. Advise and assist students regarding course and program selection, class scheduling, registration, and planning. Use various technologies to access, update and document student information. Refer as necessary to counselors for higher level needs or other resources as appropriate. Work collaboratively with counseling staff and personnel within the division. Assist in other areas of Student Services upon request. Consult with teaching faculty as needed on student issues. Occasional weekend and evening work required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate social sciences field or combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a high school/college/university office working directly with students.

Preferred Qualifications

Several years of college/university employment in student affairs/services. Experience in direct service academic advising, admissions, career services, financial aid or pre-college programs.
