The BarbaraDavis Center has an opening for a part-time or full-time PRA position for aResearch Coordinator and Study Manager for an early type 1 diabetesintervention study at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC). This is a3-year research project that will recruit children and youth ages 2-20 over thenext two years for a one year randomized control intervention through July2022. Responsibilities include explaining the study, administering informedconsent, scheduling study visits, collecting questionnaire data, collectingblood samples, coordinating lab testing and managing database. The StudyManager will also be responsible for managing institutional review board (IRB)and regulatory documents.

  Job Summary: 

This is apart-time or full-time PRA position for a Research Coordinator and StudyManager for the Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)-guided Therapy for Stage 2Diabetes Intervention Study at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC).This is research project funded by the Helmsley Charitable Trust (HCT), We willrecruit children and youth ages 2-20 over the next two years for a one yearrandomized control intervention through June 2022. Participants who are inearly, pre-symptomatic stage of type 1 diabetes (T1D) will be recruited fromother ongoing diabetes preventions studies (ASK, DAISY, TEDDY). These childrenhave both evidence of autoimmune attack on the insulin-producing cells as wellas early signs of blood glucose abnormalities. The study aims to use CGM technology to educate these children and theirfamilies about factors which impact blood glucose and to begin insulin therapyat an early time point to maintain near-normal blood glucose thereby minimizingfuture risk of complications.

Thisposition reports to the Primary Investigator (Brigitte Frohnert MD, Ph.D.).This position will also work closely with the larger prevention study teams,including ASK, DAISY and TEDDY studies’ Principal Investigator (Marian Rewers,MD, Ph.D.), Sr. Investigator (Judith Baxter, MA), and Follow-Up Coordinatorsfrom these studies, Clinical, Lab and Data Management Teams. Supervision willinclude training and oversight for the position’s responsibilities. Theposition is part of a larger study team that includes other related studies, andthe individual in this position will be expected to participate as part of thisteam.

 

JobResponsibilities:

 

• Recruitand screen study participants from other research study participants.

• Conductall aspects of data collection according to a standardized protocol from thoseagreeing to participate including:

•    administering informed consent•    collecting demographic information•    collecting required blood samples

•    training families on use of continuousglucose monitor

•    collecting required questionairres

• Coordinatescheduling and communicate with clinical care team including diabetes educator,nurse practitioner, social worker and dietician.

• Manageassociated screening activities including supply inventory, study participantcommunications (contact participating families), data entry of screening formsand on medical records system if applicable.

• Manageinstitutional review board (IRB) and regulatory documentation andcommunication.

• Assistwith the paperwork processing, filing, and preparation of presentations asneeded.

• Otherscreening associated tasks that emerge.

 

Thisposition generally works Monday-Friday, to comprise a 30-40 hour workweek.Hours will be variable, and the position must be flexible to meet thescheduling and coverage needs of the study. The position work area will at theBarbara Davis Center.

  Salary and Benefits:

The salaryrange for this position has been established at $37,000-43,000 (full time FTE)and is commensurate with skills and experience. Information on Universitybenefits programs, including eligibility, is located at Employee Services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelors ofArts or Sciences with a background in Biology or a health-related fieldpreferred.

• Workexperience that can be substituted on a year for year basis.

• One yearpaid work experience required, with experience in medical research or clinicalsetting preferred.

• Goodinterpersonal and communication skills required.

• Spanishreading, writing, and speaking fluency strongly preferred.

  Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experiencein research or recruiting participants for research studies.

• Experienceworking with physicians and nurses is desirable.

• Certifiedphlebotomist or phlebotomy experience preferred.

• Experienceworking with IRB and regulatory agencies.
