Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Grants and Contracts Specialist will assist The University of Alabama faculty and staff in the review and processing of sponsored project proposals and in the review, revision, and development of sponsored project proposed budgets. Other responsibilities may include assuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local government administrative requirements related to pre-award and/or post-award sponsored project activities and negotiation of sponsored contract terms and conditions. The Grant and Contract Specialist must independently make decisions, authorize actions, and manage the sponsored programs assigned.

Additional Department Summary: Assist staff in analyzing sources of sponsored support, in preparation and processing of applications and proposals for sponsored funding and in pre-award and non-financial post-award administration of contracts and grants.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years accounting, bookkeeping, budget, or contract/grant experience; OR a Masters degree with some accounting, bookkeeping, budget, or contract/grant experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Excellent organizational skills, including time management. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of professional work experience. Experience in the preparation and processing of grant and/or contract proposals. Experience in negotiation of sponsored agreements. Experience in sponsored agreement administration.
