Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Program Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration of a program(s) or department. May assist with program design, management, and implementation. Serves as liaison between the program/department and other departments or the community. Position may supervise staff or students, provide complex administrative assistance, create promotional materials, and/or assist in the development of other potential programs. Position may be responsible for budgetary information.

Additional Department Summary: Assists Project Director to conduct orientations and program assessment. Involves travel throughout the state of Alabama. This position will be trained by a national assessment institute to become a reliable assessor to administer environmental rating scales used to determine quality of child care programs. Specialist will be required to write reports as assessments conducted at childcare programs.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree or higher and a minimum of two (2) years related experience, OR an associate's degree and a minimum of four (4) years related experience, OR a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of six (6) years related experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or related field. Familiarity with Alabama Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers. Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice. Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, spreadsheets, and/or database. Ability to work well with diverse populations, strong organizational skills, and good oral and written communication skills. Ability to travel with overnight stays. Basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree preferred.
