DescriptionJob Purpose: Serve as subject matter expert and advisor within a collegeor an academic unit on matters related to sponsored research programadministration in accordance with Institute and sponsor policies. Assistfaculty with pre- and post- award grant activities including budgetdevelopment, proposal preparation, sub-award initiation and accounting, andadvising department financial staff on issues related post-award grantmanagement.

 Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist faculty with budget development and proposal preparation for grant requests. Read solicitations, proof and edit proposal documents, prepare forms and all required paperwork.
  • Enter proposals into sponsor systems and route proposals to Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).
  • Assist faculty with post-award management, particularly sub-award initiation and accounting.
  • Liaise with management and staff with OSP and Grants & Contracts Accounting regarding sponsored research grants and contracts issues.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the School Chair, Director of Business Operations, Director of HR, and departmental finance staff regarding issues related to sponsored research plans, proposals and projects.
  • May coordinate with faculty on deliverables and financial reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Work Experience: Five to seven years job related experience
  • Certifications: Certified Research Administrator, Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator, or Certified Financial Research Administrator
  • Skills: This job requires familiarity with the grant proposal process and government budget circulars; ability to interpret and explain complex policies and government language; excellent writing and communication skills.


  • QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred Education: Master’s degree or Doctoral degree
  • Preferred Work Experience:  Grant writing experience; preferably technical (bioscience and/or bioengineering).
  • Preferred Certifications:
  • Preferred Skills:  Excellent verbal communication skills. Strong written communication skills; writes clearly and informatively; ability to vary writing style to meet needs; ability to present numerical data effectively; and ability to read and interpret written information. Strong attention to detail.  Excellent customer service skills with proven knowledge of how to work effectively and professionally with all levels of internal and external constituents.  Proven ability to proactively organize and prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Strong proficiency in using the MS Office Suite and familiarity with on-line grant submissions. Ability to learn and apply new software skills.  Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and follow-through.
