Job Summary:

The Research Assistant (RA) will be trained in oral history techniques and will collaborate with the Project Director, Elgin Community College professor of history Antonio Ramirez. RAs will spend approximately 10 hours/week conducting and processing oral histories but hours are flexible.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Interest in history

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Spanish/English bilingual ability

Essential Duties:

* Locate oral history research participants
* Research participants and their historical contexts
* Conduct oral histories
* Organize, process, and transcribe oral histories
* Translation and interpreting between Spanish/English
* Assist in organizing community events and meetings

Physical Demands:

Sedentary (up to 10 lbs occasionally, sitting most of the time)

Close visual acuity (e.g. computer, assembly)
