Position Description:
UCLA Strategic Communications increases awareness, understanding and support of UCLA's vision, mission, and accomplishments among its many constituencies. A major focus of this department is the formulation and implementation of strategic communications initiatives, plans and events. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, Strategic Communications, the Assistant to the Vice Chancellor manages executive level administrative, operational, research and project-management. The Assistant to the VC supports and contributes to the Vice Chancellor's voice to the Chancellor's vision for UCLA through written and spoken communication.

The incumbent's duties are carried out at the highest level of the institution, involving close coordination with the offices of the Chancellor, Provost, other vice chancellors, associate and assistant vice chancellors, and academic deans. As a highly visible position, the incumbent manages the Executive Communication Office including all front desk reception operations, the coordination of multiple simultaneous projects, including speeches, letters and website content; acts as a liaison among faculty, staff and other sources in order to gather information for Executive Communications documents. The incumbent coordinates speaking engagements, letters and website content in support of the Chancellor; serves as the budget coordinator for Executive Communications; manages the Vice Chancellor's daily workflow, complex calendar and travel schedule; analyzes information and data for a variety of reports and proposals; maintains relationships with important external constituencies, administrators, faculty, staff, and students; composes, edits, and routes correspondence and meeting summaries; collaborates with the production, account, digital, and design teams to coordinate Marketing efforts; prepares presentation materials and agendas; and coordinates meeting. Working hours may include evenings and weekends.
