#101568 Research Project Manager
This is a 100% limited appointment for 12 months, with the possibility of extending and or career conversion, depending on project and funding.DESCRIPTION
In collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Project Manager will lead a project to investigate the effect of different macronutrients such as amino acids, sugars and fatty acids on the function of neural circuits that regulate courtship behavior in Drosophila. Analyze results, prepare manuscripts for publication, and formally present results as appropriate.
Incumbent will use their expertise in functional imaging using two-photon microscopy, behavioral assays to measure courtship behavior, biochemical analysis of metabolites with Western blotting, and confocal microscopy to identify specific brain neurons with immunohistochemistry. Incumbent will oversee a wide variety of standard procedures, performing the maintenance and validation of transgenic and mutant Drosophila strains, which involves PCR, DNA sequencing, manipulation, and analysis.
Incumbent will collaborate with other lab members on all aspects of the project. Train laboratory personnel in fly genetics, functional imaging, biochemical analysis of metabolites and behavioral genetics.
Fine motor skills for dissection procedures.
Willingness and ability to work safely with chemicals and high-energy lasers.
Must be able to work some evening and or weekends, based on the needs of the lab.
Expert level theoretical and sophisticated practical experimental knowledge of neural circuits and behavioral genetics acquired through a Masters degree in related field and an equivalent combination of education and experience. MA or PhD in related field preferred.
Extensive demonstrated experience, skill and knowledge in successfully carrying out independent research in behavioral genetics, multiphoton imaging, confocal imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
Advanced experience with complex assays, two-and three-photon imaging, confocal imaging, PCR, in vitro transcription, agarose gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, protein purification, antibody generation, immunostaining, and fluorescence microscopy.
Advanced experience with Drosophila genetics and laser optics.
Extensive experimental knowledge of current literature in fields of neuroscience, nutritional biology and behavioral genetics.
Advanced experience writing manuscripts based on research projects, including excellent scientific writing skills and presentation skills for presenting data to a professional scientific audience.
Expert skill and knowledge to conduct research independently, requiring only general direction by the principal investigator.
Proven ability to manage, train and provide work direction to other lab personnel and graduate rotation students.
