Receives incoming calls for police and security services, dispatches officers as appropriate, and monitors police radio alarms. Documents police and security service requests in an electronic records management and dispatch system. Operates National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console, a computer aided mobile dispatch system, and interoperable radio console.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance; monitors and responds to 911 calls from the University system, as well as from campus “Blue Light” emergency telephones.

2. Operates a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console, a computer aided mobile dispatch (CAD) system, and a Zetron interoperable radio console.

3. Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings.

4. Broadcasts orders to patrol officers in vicinity to investigate complaint or request when appropriate; relays instructions or questions from remote units.

5. Coordinates departmental paging in the event of a campus emergency.

6. Relays radio and telephone messages between police officers and the community.

7. Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-in and telephone traffic.

8. Controls access to Police Department secured areas; monitors the department’s closed circuit camera and intercom systems.

9. Performs various clerical duties, including completing the electronic dispatch log and filing police reports.

10. Serves as clearing house for University-wide emergency call lists.

11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The work shift is from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and the starting hourly rate is $16.86.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must be a resident of the state of Illinois.

3. No record of conviction of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.

4. Must be at least 21 years of age upon employment.

5. Certification/Licensure State of Illinois Public Safety Telecommunicator or eligibility for certification by waiver.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Law Enforcement Agency Data System (LEADS) Certification.

2. Knowledge of Computer Aided Display System (CADS) and Records management systems.
