Reviews and approves special circumstance and cost of attendance appeals for this population; for those that are approved adjusts federal FAFSA data and system-generated packages in accordance with federal, state, and University rules. Audits and authorizes all loan types.
Acts as a primary liaison for students admitted to or enrolled in professional degree programs. Conducts the review of ‘special circumstances’ appeals for these populations; evaluates and approves or denies requests for cost of attendance adjustments for professional program appeals based on federal rules regarding allowable modifications. Updates federal data and system-generated packages as appropriate; authorizes disbursements. Conducts regular data analyses regarding recipient behavior to inform financial literacy and outreach strategies; interprets and applies federal rules and University policies pertaining to aid limits, overawards, exceptions, and aggregates. Recommends policy changes and business process improvements to senior leadership. Responsible for implementing approved changes . Trains others not directly reporting to the incumbent as needed.
Counsels applicants, continuing students, parents, guardians, and departmental representatives via phone, email, and office visits in matters concerning individual student aid eligibility; the process and time-line for creating financial aid packages; various aid types and eligibility; and process and time-line for disbursement of aid. Initiates action(s) to resolve student issues. Approves the disbursement of all student loan types using established methodology.
Provides support, information, and guidance to leadership to by participating in discussions and testing regarding updates and changes to the student information system, imaging product, and other products used regularly in support of the financial aid function. Monitors and assesses processes continually; recommends changes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and/or compliance, and shares responsibility for the implementation of changed procedures.
Assists other sections during peak times in support of the goals of the Office of Financial Aid. Ensures business process documentation is up-to-date. Contributes and updates content related to area of expertise to the departmental intranet site. May present on topic of expertise to other FSU entities.
Authorizes the processing of disbursements and audit awards of all direct student loans, PLUS loans, private educational loans as well as other financial aid in accordance with the established institutional methodology and state and federal regulations. Analyzes student financial aid data and verifies manual and systematic disbursement of awards. Interpreting financial aid rules and policies from internal and external sources.Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Prior financial aid/financial literacy, customer service, advising experience, or experience working one-on-one with people in a professional setting.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent software.
Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Experience performing accurately in a detail oriented environment and the ability to meet project deadlines.
Experience gathering, interpreting, reporting, and editing information.
Experience and ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.Preferred A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and 2 years of experience related to the responsibilities of the job are preferred.
