Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of the Isenberg School, the Assistant Dean and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) leads all marketing & communications efforts of the school. The role is responsible for an oversight of a budget in excess of $1.5MM, all advertising and collaterals, internal/external communications and community/media relations. A key member of the senior management team, the Assistant Dean and Chief Marketing Officer advises on all strategic marketing initiatives, and represents the school at the university level.

Essential Functions

  • Instrumental in establishing marketing strategies, plans and budgets for Isenberg School. Strategic partner and collaborator with Dean, Associate Deans and other senior leadership on all external relations. Establishes strategic communication priorities for alumni and donor audiences, in close collaboration with Executive Director of Development.
  • Ensures high quality, consistent presentation of the Isenberg brand to key constituents and external audiences, including but not limited to admissions, advancement/alumni relations, and peer communications for rankings such as U.S. News & World Report. Leads a team of staff who provide day to day marketing and communications to support the work of the school. Works with a broad contingency of faculty and administrators in a time sensitive environment.
  • Contributes to admissions goals for Online Programs. Directs term by term promotional plans supporting revenue growth. Supervises relationships with external vendors and consultants for creative development, production and ad placement/distribution.
  • Initiates and manages market research as appropriate to best determine lsenberg's market positioning and increase awareness and consideration for the School. Utilizes online and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) data for continuous optimization. Collaborates with alumni relations and development on maintaining an up-to-date alumni database.
  • Administers the marketing & communications operating budget, develops projections and approves expenditures; supervises budgetary plannings for all Isenberg marketing & communications across the school. This includes but is not limited to lsenberg.umass.edu, all social media properties, branded merchandise, print and electronic publications such as Dean's report and MBA Look Book, email marketing campaigns.
  • Serves as a liaison to University Relations and provides strategic input to all marketing & communications resources that support continuing and professional education initiatives such as UMass Online, OIT and CPE.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Humanities, Fine Arts or Social Sciences.
  • 10 years of experience in a position responsible for the production of creative outputs.
  • Knowledge and experience in marketing, public relations and communications principles and standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media usage (e.g. Facebook, Linked-in, Twitter) to affect organization communication goals.
  • Knowledge and experience with publication design, advertising and marketing principles.
  • Knowledge of and experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with media.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely and compellingly.
  • Ability to maintain positive approach under pressure.
  • Advanced interpersonal and community relations skills.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours.

Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
