The William & Mary School of Education and Department of Curriculum and Instruction currently invites applications for the tenure-eligible position of Assistant Professor in STEM education, which will begin in August 2020. The department currently includes undergraduate and graduate programs in elementary and secondary education, special education, literacy leadership, gifted education, English as a second language (ESL) & Bilingual Education, and a dual endorsement in ESL. The department is also the home of an interdisciplinary minor in educational studies offered in partnership with departments in Arts & Sciences. The faculty member will join a team of highly collaborative K-12 Curriculum and Instruction colleagues who also work closely with faculty in Arts & Sciences on research projects, courses, and professional organizations. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary methods in science and technology education, clinical experiences in STEM, and curriculum, planning, and assessment in STEM. The faculty member will also have the opportunity to contribute to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction’s Interdisciplinary Educational Studies program. This position includes a two-two teaching course load per academic year in addition to administrative responsibilities, which include program coordination, as well as student recruitment and advising. Active faculty participation in department, school, and institutional governance is expected.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, or comparable area, with an emphasis in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics education by the time of appointment (August 2020). The candidate must have an active research agenda and record of peer-reviewed publications or evidence of potential for publications, and professional presentations. The successful candidate must have a minimum of three years of experience teaching in a STEM-related field in K-12 schools. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of work experience with US schools and show the potential for preparing preservice teachers to obtain licensure.

Preferred Qualifications

The candidate should also demonstrate a dedication to teacher preparation, collaboration, and reflective practice. Experience with curriculum and assessment in U.S. schools is highly desired. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate the following: a) evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level; b) evidence of successful experience working in teacher preparation programs; c) evidence of research and teaching that reflects a commitment to educational equity in diverse communities; d) experience working collaboratively with K-12 schools; f) a track record of, or evidence of potential to secure external funding; and g) experience or interest in teaching online.
