Position Summary:

The Department of Theatre and Drama seeks candidates for appointment as Professor of Design (Open Rank) to begin August 2020.

Specifically, we are seeking an innovative and seasoned theatrical designer with a record of outstanding professional accomplishments who can integrate traditional design with digital design for theatre and the wider field of entertainment design. Candidates with any traditional specialization (Lighting Design, Costume Design, Set Design, Projection/Media Design, Sound Design, Technical Design, etc.) are encouraged to apply.

The Department is committed to developing future generations of theatre artists and audiences. We are looking for an energetic and experienced professional interested in joining our diverse, dynamic, and collaborative team.
Theatre and Drama faculty are expected to initially develop and teach one large enrollment course to support our size-limited practical courses. The departments of Theatre, Art, and Dance are housed in UW-Madison's highly acclaimed School of Education, which values interdisciplinary collaborations and supports the arts as we enrich our global community. Principal Duties:

The ideal candidate will:
-Support our Theatre and Drama programs by designing new courses and teaching existing courses;
-Establish a nationally recognized research program;
-Successfully secure external funding or opportunities to support research and education for students;
-Teach undergraduate and graduate courses;
-Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students;
-Participate in shared governance and other committee activities;
-Contribute professionally at the local, state, and national levels.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Advanced degree required: MFA in Theatre and Drama or closely related field with emphasis in Design.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Previous higher education teaching and research experience
-Record of outstanding professional accomplishments in Theatrical or Entertainment Design
-Experience working with underserved populations and a record of cultural and social awareness

Additional Information:

Appointment at the tenured level requires evidence of excellence in scholarly research, with strong value also placed on teaching and service, and requires review by the Arts and Humanities Divisional Tenure Committee. Candidates for associate/full professor must meet criteria for appointment per UW guidelines for appointment and promotion.
