Oswego's Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, one of the largest programs in the SUNY system, actively engages in developing an inclusive and vibrant community while cultivating values that foster personal growth within a creative, diverse, and just community.

Our department offers majors in language and international trade, French, German, Spanish and a minor in Italian. Language courses are also offered in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, American Sign Language and Portuguese.

Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of Peninsular Spanish will teach various levels of Spanish, contribute to course and curriculum development, and participate in research and scholarly activities. The Assistant Professor will increasingly engage in departmental and college assignments, committee assignments, and other tasks associated with the responsibilities of a full-time faculty appointment, including advisement, monitoring student clubs & activities.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Spanish or related area by time of appointment
• Fluency in Spanish and English
• Commitment to inclusion pedagogy especially the inclusion of underrepresented or marginalized voices

Preferred Qualification:

• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
• Demonstrated teaching effectiveness
