SUMMARY: The West Lab is seeking a research technician to help with day-to-day maintenance of the lab including assistance with experiments in behavioral neuroscience related to decision-making and substance use disorders in rats.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Assist with behavioral studies in rats including operant (either i.v. drug self-administration or natural food rewards) and pavlovian conditioning

•Analyze electrophysiological and behavioral data

•Help with histological processing of brain tissue

•Prepare chemical reagents and maintain records

•Assist with maintenance of IACUC protocols, laboratory equipment, and safety protocols

•Work professionally and collegially with others

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in a neuroscience, psychology, biology or related discipline. Previous research experience with techniques and skills listed above is a plus. Computer literacy and strong organizational and communication skills are preferred.
