This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The Student Programs Specialist is responsible for the administration of and ongoing development, implementation, evaluation and reporting for CSUPERB’s system-wide student grant and award programs. The Student Programs Specialist works closely with the CSUPERB Program Administrator and reports to the Executive Director.

The Student Programs Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the outreach activities, proposal review and evaluation processes for CSUPERB student grant and award programs, with help from the Executive Director, the Program Office Staff and faculty committees drawn from all 23 CSU campuses. Builds relationships with external partners, faculty, students and administrators system-wide to liaison, administer and manage pre- and post-award activities. Ensures accurate reporting and tracking for reports on program effectiveness and for publication. Evaluates funded projects and activities by reviewing and analyzing final reports. Conducts yearly programmatic reviews, evaluates similar or related projects, including programs internal and external to the CSU. Provides written and oral reports to Executive Director and Strategic Planning Council.

Collaborates with CSUPERB Executive Director, Program Administrator and staff to develop, coordinate and publish annual reports, drafts and plans. In addition to managing the Student Programs, the Specialist will participate in one or more cross-cutting CSUPERB activities, particularly the planning, design and implementation of the annual CSU Biotechnology Symposium.

The Student Programs Specialist interacts with CSUPERB program office staff (daily), faculty and students on the 23 CSU campuses (daily), CSUPERB advisory councils (weekly), Chancellor’s Office administrators (monthly) and external CSUPERB partners (monthly).

The Student Programs Specialist performs work for the CSUPERB Executive Director and the position requires close and continual coordination with other Program Office staff, along with faculty and administrator advisory groups and Chancellor’s Office staff.

The Student Programs Specialist attends CSUPERB Operating Committee meetings to support multiple work priorities and drive program office operations.

The Student Programs Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with program, university and CSU system regulations, including analysis, research and development activities for evolving and emerging programs and activities.

The Student Programs Specialist provides the best possible support and resources to the system-wide biotechnology community of CSU faculty and students, staff and administrators.

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,125 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,345 - $5,125 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative polices, procedures, practices or programs.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Knowledge of grant administration and/or student affairs programs is preferred.

  • Experience with CSU administrative policies, procedures and programs.

  • 1 year's experience with the principles of budget analysis and project management, including meeting budgets and hard or agreed-upon deadlines.

  • Demonstrated, excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, detail-oriented projects at varying stages of development and to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment on those projects.

  • Ability to take on all aspects of a work product, but also to train and involve others in program procedures.

  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, integrity and diplomacy both individually and as part of a team effort in a diverse work environment involving individuals at all levels within the university system.

  • Ability to correspond and work effectively by email, telephone and/or videoconference.

  • Ability to travel statewide (California) as required.
