Job Title: Area Coordinator  

Reports To: Director of Residence Life  

Status: Exempt   

General Description  

The Residence Life Office of Mount Saint Mary College serves a diverse on-campus population of approximately 1000 residents. The Area Coordinator (AC) assists with the effective management of the residence life program in support of the College’s mission and overall goals of the department.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

1. Overseeing the operation of up to 10 upper class residence halls (approximately 600 students in total)  

2. Supervision of area RA staff, conducting disciplinary meetings and resolving cases with sanctions   

3. Providing assistance to resident students, resolving roommate conflicts, and participating in an on-call rotation.   

4. Plans and implements both the Resident Assistant selection process and the Resident Assistant training program.   

5. Participates directly in the day-to-day programmatic and community development efforts of the Resident Assistant (RA) staff.   

6. Assists with additional departmental planning efforts and operational tasks such as staff recruitment, staff training, housing selection and other duties as assigned.   

7. Actively support the College’s mission and possess the ability to mentor others, resident students and student staff specifically.  

Requirements  

1. Master’s Degree in Student Affairs or related field   

2. One (1) year previous, full-time, RD experience preferred.  

3. Previous full time experience in Residence Life/Student Affairs is required   

4. Integrity and excellent communication skills  

5. Must be fair, friendly, empathetic, enthusiastic, warm, and welcoming.  

6. Must possess a valid driver’s license.   

  

This is a full time, twelve-month position. . Compensation includes a competitive salary, furnished apartment with utilities, and cable, as well as a meal plan (when school is in session), comprehensive health insurance plan, 403(b) retirement package and tuition remission after one year.

Founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1960, the Mount has been an academic presence here in Newburgh since 1883. The college's roots in education, and in the training of educators, go even further back to the 14th century and Saint Dominic.

Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
