Basic Function

Reporting to the Director for Enrollment Management, the Internship Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with students, faculty, employers, and other program stakeholder groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Internship Coordinator assists students with identifying internship opportunities and securing placement. The Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with faculty, employers, and other program stakeholder groups. The Internship Coordinator develops, coordinates, and manages internship opportunities and partnerships for students on the Loudoun Campus. The Internship Coordinator works closely with Career Services to promote opportunities for students and employers via the Career Connection system. The position encompasses the following three distinct areas of responsibility: 1) coordination and collaboration with Career Counseling/Career Services 2) promotion of internship opportunities and student recruitment 3) employer relations and Career Connection liaison. Some night/weekend availability may be required. Some local travel required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in business administration or related field, or a combination of education, training and experience

Several years of work experience in the coordination or administration of internship programs, job placement, human resources/recruitment, economic development, and/or Chamber of Commerce functions

Applicants must have personal transportation and a valid driver’s license, to travel locally to internship sites

Some night/weekend work may be required

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher

Demonstrated experience in a progressively responsible higher education administrative program

Experience in presentation of workshops or public speaking

Experience working with an international student population is preferred

Previous experience with VCCS

Previous experience with PeopleSoft and/or database applications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with the public in a positive manner

Computer skills

Working knowledge of a professional environment

Strong organizational skills

Ability to work independently

A commitment to an inclusive and diverse campus environment is required

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

Must possess sufficient experience in a collegiate environment to understand the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators

Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance is necessary

A demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace is required
