Assistant Professor - Computational Microbiology

The College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Microbiology (microbiology.osu.edu) and the Infectious Disease Institute (idi.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, with an emphasis on microbial biology, microbial communities, antimicrobial resistance, emerging pathogens, host defense and related topics. Applicants will be expected to focus on developing and applying computational methods to large-scale data analysis in population, comparative, or functional genomics and will play a role in the Department’s and Institute’s program in research and teaching. The new faculty member will join an interdisciplinary community on the main campus in Columbus, Ohio. Our partners - Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Ohio Supercomputer Center - offer limitless opportunities for collaboration and advancement of research programs. This position is partially funded by the Infectious Diseases Discovery Theme, one of Ohio State's Discovery Themes; a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact.

Qualifications: A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field and a primary interest in understanding biological phenomena through the development and use of computational approaches. Postdoctoral experience with a demonstrated record of productivity is required. Outstanding applicants in all areas of bioinformatics and computational microbial biology will be considered, but research areas of special interest include the human microbiome and host-pathogen interactions, as well as comparative, population and ecosystem genomics. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
