Pharmacy hours of operation are 8a-6p, Mon-Friday and 8a-12p, Saturday and Sunday. Holidays are 8a-12n. The need for On call hours may be needed.
Pharmacy hours will be flexible based on the needs of the unit.

Position Summary

The Director of Vet Med VTH Pharmacy Services is responsible for the management of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) Pharmacy. Work involves direct and indirect (through supervisors) supervision of VTH pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support staff in maintaining inventory, preparing drugs, and dispensing drugs for VTH inpatients and outpatients. The Director of Vet Med VTH Pharmacy works under the direction of the Hospital Director/Associate Dean for Clinical Services with support from the Hospital Administrator. This position is responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and coordinating pharmacy operations in support of patient care, clinical research, and teaching at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. This includes creating specific objectives for the pharmacy regarding service, teaching, and research, as well as strategies to meet these objectives. The Director of Vet Med VTH Pharmacy develops budgets, policies, and procedures to support the operational infrastructure of the pharmacy, manages pharmacy employees in the distribution of duties, development of work plans, and performance of annual evaluations, and collaborates with VTH administrators on budget recommendations and yearly planning for pharmacy expenditures and personnel. The work of the Director of Vet Med VTH Pharmacy also involves compounding, preparing, and dispensing medications as prescribed by veterinarians in accordance with established practices of the profession and rules and regulations of the VTH. This position furnishes information about pharmaceuticals to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and pharmacy staff and will be informed about drug dosage, side effects, and interactions. The Director of Vet Med VTH Pharmacy ensures VTH Pharmacy compliance with the regulatory directives of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency, and Georgia Board of Pharmacy and is responsible for training and ensuring adherence to standards for compounding drugs as well as safety protocols for handling and disposing hazardous and controlled drugs. This position is responsible for the pharmacy inventory. This includes receipt of items, payment of invoices, and storage and rotation of pharmacy inventory along with supervising drug storage throughout the VTH.
The Director of Vet Med VTH Pharmacy works collaboratively to develop services that enhance the quality of patient care, improve VTH efficiency, and promote fiscal responsibility. This position will communicate with department and section heads, clinicians, and staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote safe, effective, and high quality drug therapy throughout the VTH.

>Experience as a pharmacist.

>Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of professional pharmacy work related to preparation, compounding, and dispensing of drugs, including controlled and hazardous drugs.
>Ability to effectively direct pharmacy staff (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) in compounding, preparing, and dispensing drugs.
>Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, superiors, subordinates, and the public.

Manages the controlled drug program to ensure VTH compliance with internal, state, and federal guidelines; and supports controlled drug stewardship by VTH clinicians and staff.
