As a part of the Compensation Team in the Human Resources Group (HRG) at the School of Medicine, the Compensation Business Analyst is tasked to look critically at HR Business processes and consider ways to reduce routine work within our work group and across the school. This position will specify requirements for business information systems and incorporate new technical systems to improve work-flow, production, efficiency and effectiveness. In addition, this position will work with the Compensation team in developing, implementing the university's compensation policies, programs, and practices for non-academic and bargaining unit staff. The Business Analyst will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in HR Business systems, data analysis, critical thinking and knowledgeable about compensation practices and trends. The ideal candidate will have advanced skills in Excel, Python and or other statistical/computational programs balanced with excellent communication and presentation skills.

Duties include:

  • Analyze and document current HR business processes, ascertain how operational methods can be streamlined such that processes become easier and more efficient.

  • Utilize elicitation techniques to understand business processes and translate into system requirements and/or development of systems solutions.

  • Interview users and stakeholders in various HR processes to fully understand requirements for proposed solutions. Act as the translator between stakeholder requirements and any new system that support and streamline these processes

  • Represent the School perspective and gather feedback from various stakeholder on proposed new systems and their impact.

  • Perform testing of new systems, upgrades and patching of existing systems; may include developing test plans. Conduct and document results of testing.

  • May develop instructional materials, training and job aids. Lead implementation of new processes and technological solutions, develop a project plan, timeline and action items and communication plan, may delegate or assign work to others as needed.

  • Review job descriptions and bargaining unit specifications; apply job evaluation techniques to determine the appropriate job classification and exemption status.

  • Assist compensation team with annual salary program; learn salary program process, including approving salary plans and communication.

  • Assist in job matching, software program updates and reporting. Provide research and analyses on existing and future compensation programs, policies, and/or practices. Run Reports and conduct job audits. Participate in and/or assist in conducting salary surveys.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with salary survey participation, market analysis, job evaluation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically, Word and Advanced Excel.
  • Analytical, critical thinking and computational/statistical skills using computer programs such as Python
  • Effective communication (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of compensation practices and trends.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and three years relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes and work flow.
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Experience with enterprise applications and understanding of database driven applications.
  • Skill in conducting interviews.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise and business needs.
  • Listening, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain good customer relations with clients and external vendors and partners.
