The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within The School of Medicine.The Division of Dysmorphology and Teratology is involved in four major areas: 1) providing clinical services to patients with birth defects and developmental disabilities; 2) providing public health services in counseling patients, providers and education to the public about prenatal exposures and exposures during breastfeeding and their impact on child development and health; 3) a teaching program that includes undergraduate students, graduate students in epidemiology, medical students, and post-doctoral students, pediatrics, epidemiology, health behavior, global health, pharmacy, and other specialties; and 4) conducting clinical research.
The Center for Better Beginnings within the Division of Dysmorphology and Teratology conducts research studies to better understand the causes, prevention and treatment of birth defects and developmental disabilities. Research programs and projects within the Center involve federal, state and industry sponsored grants and contracts totaling over $78 million, which require complex interrelated infrastructure and shared resources both within the Center and with collaborators and subcontractors outside the Center.
As a member of the Center for Better Beginnings, the Senior Applications Programmer will provide expert Web/graphical user interface and database programming for various research projects. The Senior Applications Programmer will architect, develop, integrate, and manage moderately complex to complex business systems, including multiple databases, interactive web-based applications, and automated reporting applications. The Senior Applications Programmer is required to ensure business systems are functioning properly by designing, developing, and maintaining robust and comprehensive automated test plans.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
Three (3+) or more years of experience in designing/creating/testing websites, as well as designing/creating databases.
Proven ability to create web forms and sophisticated scripts to submit and retrieve (report) data from a relational database back end. Experience parsing data using regular expressions is required.
Advanced knowledge of SQL Server database systems. Ability to effectively design and create database tables, indexes, triggers, and other database structures that effectively model complex data relationships. Extensive experience in effectively manipulating and managing data using complex SQL queries, views and stored procedures.
Demonstrated software repository skills such as GIT and CVS. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills such as unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing.
Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts.
Thorough experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
Strong experience in analyzing and evaluating business processes and user requirements, and in implementing design models that meet those needs. Experience reverse engineering existing processes/applications and recommending enhancements.
Demonstrated knowledge of and demonstrated experience in project management principles and techniques.
Thorough experience using scripting languages such as Perl to download data from disparate sources, process/integrate data, and upload/update database data is required. Experience with software integration tools and processes is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with Windows operating systems, including file system operations, FTP/SCP, SSH, etc. Knowledge of the interoperability of Windows file systems.
