Under direction, the incumbent will serve as a Clinical Research Supervisor of the Geriatric Psychiatry Division, Stein Institute for Research on Aging and the Center for Healthy Aging. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating all management and administrative activities of over 20 clinical research studies and directing and supervising clinical research and administrative staff. Responsibilities include supervising, providing work direction, setting priorities for new and continuing staff, conducting performance evaluations, developing IRB's, devising work schedules, and participating in all aspects of the hiring process. Other management responsibilities include developing appropriate clinic policies and procedures to implement new studies and manage existing studies.

Additionally, the incumbent will participate in planning meetings and decision-making and contribute important original ideas pertaining to the planning, development, modification, and execution of new research studies and ancillary studies. Incumbent will manage and coordinate multiple components of projects involving various collaborative teams including the Principal Investigator, other faculty co-investigators, statisticians, programmers, data managers, and other support staff; Assess grant application objectives and planning strategies under which proposal objectives will be attained; Take charge of writing and coordinating major portions of research proposals broadly outlined by the Principal Investigator.

Apply expertise necessary to present clear, consistent, logical scientific arguments and to justify proposal budgets. Help develop and implement strategic research grant proposals for grant continuation and new grants related to mental health and epidemiology, the scope of which requires understanding the purpose/science of the grant, long-term planning and "first time" applications and practices; Stay abreast of and interpret for the Principal Investigator, sponsor's rules and regulations and terms and conditions of specific grants, including those of the National Institutes of Health (NIH); Develop new research techniques including development of research questionnaires, validating new instruments and providing instruction and training on new measures, utilizing advanced knowledge in both the fields of psychology and ethics.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science or related area.

  • A minimum of five or more years of relevant experience.

  • Combination of knowledge and skill in the fields of aging and mental health with strong experience working with older patients with dementia and schizophrenia and deep knowledge of these disorders. Experience working in a mental health services setting.

  • Demonstrated experience in project development, coordination, planning, grant writing and development.

  • Strong project management skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.

  • Proven experience managing people with a wide range of educational backgrounds and skills. Management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Experience in training others in the field of research. Experience in training and providing instruction to other new research staff.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DSM-V criteria for multiple clinical research projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of research methods and statistical analyses with strong demonstrated ability to make original contribution to research design and publication.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including but not limited to: problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, mentorship. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others. Works well with others to achieve common goals.

  • Strong communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Clear and concise communicator. Ability to influence and negotiate.

  • Broad knowledge of clinical or laboratory research and clinical research philosophy. Demonstrated ability to translate clinical research philosophy into business best practices in a trial setting.

  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Effectively uses campus' clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems.

  • Strong demonstrated experience in protocol development, research design and grant application writing.

  • Combination of knowledge and skill in the fields of ethics and psychology.

  • Advanced Degree
