DESCRIPTION

Working under the direction of the Head of Digital Object Metadata Management Unit, the Digital Collections Metadata and Ingest Specialist provides metadata normalization, enhancement, and ingest services for a range of digital projects, with a focus on unique and locally relevant materials. Performs heading identification, reconciliation, and review. Contributes to the creation of authority records and/or performs complex authority and headings work in the local database.

The Digital Collections Metadata and Ingest Specialist analyzes, evaluates, interprets and revises or proposes revisions to established operational guidelines within scope of assigned responsibilities. Analyzes tools and collections to determine and develop efficient and effective practices and process and to streamline data clean-up, ingest, and maintenance. Documents and revises the data processing procedures. Coordinates with stakeholders, other related production units, and other Metadata Analysts as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced knowledge of library data transformation techniques and software tools.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to address highly complex or specialized solutions.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to convey critical timelines, technical issues, and solutions.

  • Advanced knowledge of the rules and standards relevant to managing digital resources and the ability to apply them sufficient to resolve discrepancies and to perform batch transformation and enhancement processes.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills to deal with a variety of people and situations, including providing guidance and leadership to other library professionals.
