The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a tenure-system faculty scholar at the assistant professor rank in science education as part of ongoing priority initiatives in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. MSU is committed to strategically increasing its capacity to provide national and international leadership in science education by building on our department’s long-standing record of excellence in research, teacher education, graduate education, policy, and curriculum development. As such, the applicant should be able to contribute to research, teaching, and service in science education or science teacher education. We are open to a broad range of focal areas of research relevant to science education, with a particular interest in scholars who specialize in one or more of these areas: equity and social justice, innovative field-based teacher preparation, the bridging of in- and out-of-school learning experiences, computational thinking, and research-practice partnerships.
The individual who assumes this position will conduct research; seek external funding; teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral courses in all modalities (e.g., face to face, online, hybrid); participate in the doctoral program in science education and teacher education; and continue to build capacity focused on the department’s Core Principles Statement. Additional duties will vary depending upon university and academic unit needs, as well as the candidate’s experience and interests. There will be opportunities to collaborate with other faculty members in ongoing projects within the College of Education, the CREATE for STEM Institute, the College of Natural Science, across the university, and in the K-12 community.
Applicants should provide evidence of scholarly accomplishment in research, teaching, and service. The successful applicant will be expected to seek external research funding and develop research collaborations within and beyond the department. Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree by August 2020 in science education or a related field.Desired Qualifications
