Job Description Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Clarkson University invites applications for one or more non-tenure track faculty positions (Visiting Assistant Professor) to support undergraduate and graduate math programs. Both one-year and two-year positions may be available (with the second year contingent upon satisfactory teaching performance). Renewal for at most one additional year may be available, at the discretion of the department.
Candidates should be excellent teachers, with willingness to teach both large and small classes across all levels of university math courses. Special consideration will be given to those candidates who connect with existing departmental research strengths, particularly in the areas of dynamical systems, applied optimization, math biology, and data science.
The focus of this position will be primarily on teaching, and the successful candidate will be expected to become an excellent teacher across a broad spectrum of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. While the primary teaching responsibilities will be in the core mathematics sequence (Calculus I, II, III and Differential Equations), there will also be an opportunity to teach outside of the core curriculum (Intro to Prob/Stat, Intro to Scientific Computing, Linear Algebra, Intro to Proofs). The normal teaching load for this position will be three sections per semester. Additionally, the faculty member filling this position is expected to support departmental service obligations, including mentoring of students. A successful candidate will be encouraged to continue professional development through engagement in the robust research and teaching activities ongoing at the university (e.g. developing research collaborations, mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers, learning and applying innovative teaching methods).
Clarkson University encourages interdisciplinary research among its faculty and the Math Department has an especially strong tradition of collaborative work with other departments. Candidates who extend and enrich that collaborative tradition will find this environment to be particularly productive.
This position is intended for recent PhD candidates. Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics, statistics, or related field by August 2019.
Effective instructor of undergraduate and graduate courses in the disciplinary area. Effective student research mentoring.
A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or a related scientific field is required. The applicant should also have demonstrated the desire to achieve excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Ability to complete essential classroom functions. Clarkson is committed to complying with the guidelines set forth under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
