Position Summary

Summary of Position: This position will support Western's efforts to improve teaching and learning through the effective application of performance-based instructional design theory and application by assisting faculty with designing program and course level curriculum. Primary focus will be given to the design of new programs and courses and the service, support, and professional development needed for faculty in the areas of instructional design and curriculum development. Collaboration with faculty, Curriculum Services, Instructional Technologist, Teaching and Learning Coordinator, and academic administration is essential. This position works to promote social justice within the division and the larger academic institution.

Essential Functions


1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department. Perform other duties as assigned.
3. Plan and Facilitate Program Administration - Supporting Duty Statements:

  • Strategically develop and/or review program design maps and course outcome summaries using the College's official instructional design system
  • Work with key subject matter experts to recommend changes and enhancements to new and existing program designs and course-level curriculum
  • Evaluate and approve official curriculum documentation at the program, course, and learning plan level
  • Assist in the integration of curriculum design, delivery, and assessment through collaboration with the other instructional technology and design staff
  • Provide feedback and input for future instructional design needs
4. Plan and Facilitate Teaching and Learning - Supporting Duty Statements:
  • Identify the professional development strengths and needs in the application of curriculum theory including backwards instructional design theory and performance-based learning for adult learners
  • Plan and conduct traditional and web-enabled professional development for faculty and staff related to curriculum development, backwards design theory, andperformance-based learning using the college's official curriculum information system
  • Assist faculty in identifying and incorporating course competencies, learning objectives, learning plans, performance assessment tasks, criteria for assessment, and generate syllabi
  • Analyze problems and situations, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals
5. Plan and Facilitate Information Access and Delivery - Supporting Duty Statements:
  • Maintain data collection, reporting, and analysis of instructional design-related support and services
  • Prepare and provide records and activity reports
  • Provide front line support to faculty regarding instructional design, including the Worldwide Instructional Design System
  • Assist in the archival and public dissemination of program design and official curriculum information
6. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required in related field
  • Master's degree preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years in teaching experience preferred
  • Documented course or program-level instructional design experience preferred.

This position reports to: Dean of Learning

Starting annual salary range based on education and experience: $50,490 - $65,635

This position would include competitive salary, excellent benefits including medical, dental, WRS and more.
