The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Augusta University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Physics beginning in the fall of 2020. While the research area is open, preference will be shown to candidates with expertise in one of our planned areas of growth: biological physics, quantum information science, or instrumentation science. The successful candidate shall have a commitment to teaching excellence at all levels and is expected to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills. The position is a nine-month appointment, with the possibility of summer employment. Salary and startup package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Augusta University is one of four research universities in the University System of Georgia and the state’s only public academic medical center, offering 160 degree programs from bachelor’s to doctoral. The College of Science and Mathematics is starting master’s programs in Biomolecular Science and in Biological and Computational Mathematics. In 2021, the College will occupy a new building on the Health Science Campus in close proximity to the Medical College of Georgia, Dental College of Georgia, and Georgia Cancer Center. Augusta Georgia is the cultural center of the Central Savannah River Area, host of the Masters Golf Tournament, and home of the new Georgia Cyber Center. Fort Gordon, home of the U.S. Army’s Signal Corps, Cyber Center of Excellence, Cyber Command, and NSA-Georgia, is located adjacent to the city. The Department of Energy’s Savannah River National Laboratory is nearby.

 

Current research includes theoretical, computational, and experimental hard and soft condensed matter; radiation; and medical physics. Applications from candidates who might collaborate with existing research programs or with scientists in other colleges within the university or organizations within the region are welcomed.

Minimum Requirements        

A PhD in physics or a closely-related field is required, postdoctoral experience preferred. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability for success in research with a strong potential to establish a robust, extramurally funded, and nationally recognized research program.

The final candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) in the form of original transcript(s).  Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.
